For a moment we will play Devil's advocate:
For the people on the opposing viewpoint from the WashougalMoms trying to hold our board members accountable, I want you to imagine this.
It is 2024.
The board members are all far right conservatives. They are trying to pass a curriculum that teaches that Jesus is the son of the only God out there. If you believe otherwise you are an atheist and a communist out to destroy Christians. You are a hater if you disagree. If you do not agree you are going to hell and if you wear a hat that goes against Christ, you will be suspended because your hat is hate speech.
As a pissed off parent, you will sign up for a public meeting. The board members will claim there are only 6 spots available and they are all full. You find out they are all full of school employees who are also on a self-created team that teaches Christianity to our youth in the local community. You are not allowed into the board meeting and if you enter they vote to end the meeting since you said something they didn't agree with.
After you peacefully leave, they illegally restart the meeting and propose to pass the new policy. When you try to come back to the PUBLIC meeting, the police are called on you. The police answer only to the Mayor, and the Mayor happens to be a hard core conservative. You get trespassed. After that you try to attend their zoom meetings online, but every time you speak, there are magical technical issues and you get cut off every single time.
The board then passes that the new curriculum to teach everything based on the bible and everything else is deemed racist. If you are a teacher and speak against it or question the policy, you will be fired or pulled into HR and reprimanded.
When you try to complain, the board will reference back to 2021, when the board was allowed to hold meetings just like that and the board was far left, so you have no argument to stand on. The precedence has been set.
There can not be sectarian control in our public schools. It does not matter what the sect may be and which ideology it is part of. No one can infringe upon your individual rights. If we set a precedent that this type of maladministration is okay, don't forget, the opposing viewpoint will use that same precedent that was set by none other than yourself.
We have set a precedent, that elected officials are above the law and they can not be touched, when in reality they are to be held to a higher standard. We set a precedent that they can violate board policy and publicly shame anyone for speaking their opinion by releasing your name and a false statement to a reporter before anyone knew what happened.
Think the police will do anything? Think again.
Mayor Sean Guard: 2010 - 2017
The last Mayor of Washougal Sean Guard was caught paying a woman for sex over the course of ten weeks. The sexual acts were performed in his office. He paid her around $300 each time for sexual favors. He was never charged or even given a citation. They claimed since they couldn't prove he paid with city money, they never prosecuted him.
Mayor Stacee Sellers: 2006 - 2009
A state audit showed over $100,000 was missing from city funds for two events. Mayor Stacee Seller also used city funds to pay for alcoholic beverages( $88 bottle of wine) totaling $135 on alcohol on that receipt alone, which is not allowed as an expense. She spent a total on alcohol on one trip in vegas around $1000. Sellers wrote off $30,000 on “live music” and $12,000 on “Christmas ornaments”. Sellers resigned two months early. Stacee Sellers worked as code enforcement for Camas. The person writing you tickets and getting you in trouble with the law, was breaking it herself. Sellers was never charged, or received any sort of trouble for her actions.
If you were caught paying $300 for sex on multiple occasions, what would happen to you?
If you stole over $100k from the city or anyone else, what would happen to you?
The police would throw every law in the book at you. Unless you're an elected official in Washougal.
Current Mayor Molly Coston:
Appointed Alex Yost, a BLM/Antifa activist as City Councilman. Alex Yost tried to get illegal city ordinances passed to ban open carry and to ban lace masks in Washougal. Alex Yost along with another councilmember are pushing for all city employees to write their “pronouns” on emails. All a violation of her oath. After shutting down her restaurant, Alex Yost secured herself a year round position within the public sector to serve food at the Washougal School District. We also know that Mary Templeton is using her position of Superintendent to push the non-profits of elected board members who are in charge of financial distribution of $49,000,000 just for the Washougal School District. Yes, that is forty nine MILLION DOLLARS! This is why secret meetings, illegal meetings, board violations are all against the law. This is why we have a whole section of laws stating the public's rights in the Open Public Meetings Act. We can not allow the elected officials to illegally dictate and use our finances for personal gain or with a personal agenda in mind. It is not their money, it is OURS.
We are setting a very low bar for what is acceptable from elected officials.
